Designed for supervisors, clinicians and students who want an annual update on recent trends and developments in legal and ethical issues from a clinical perspective, this course is intended for those who have already completed coursework on law and ethics in social work. It focuses on the complexities and dilemmas when dealing in the field with children, teens, couples and families. This course covers issues of diversity via the teaching of core ethical values and principles as well as through case examples using couples and families from varied ethnic, racial, religious, and economic backgrounds. Goals: The goals of this course are the following:- To inform participants of the laws and ethics surrounding telehealth services.
- To give mental health practitioners a pragmatic approach for morally sound decision-making as complex ethical challenges arise daily in our professional and personal roles due to the pandemic.
- Participants will be able to discuss core competencies and ethical guidelines for practicing telehealth.
- Participants will be able to name some of the benefits and risks of telehealth and understand the necessity for informed consent.
- Participants will be able to explain the impact of COVID19 on mental health.
- Participants will be able to explain the purpose of The Georgetown Paradigm and other decision-making models.
- Participants will be able to state 2 of the ethical principles at the core of moral reasoning in health care.
