EMDR & Trauma-Informed Approaches

Trauma-informed approaches recognize the profound impact that adverse life events can have on individuals’ health, behavior and wellbeing. In addition to using the same tools and principles as in individual therapy, we incorporate specific tools to address the trauma. One of the most common additions is the use of EMDR.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s. It is primarily used to help individuals overcome the effects of traumatic experiences and alleviate symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) although can also be helpful in the treatment of anxiety, depression and phobias.

The following clinicians at FTI have been trained and certified in the use of this technique.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Traditional talk therapy can be highly effective for many individuals struggling with mental health problems. But others, in spite of multiple psychotherapeutic approaches, still struggle to find relief for their symptoms. In those cases, nontraditional therapy tools might be more effective. Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a mental health treatment method that involves using ketamine’s trance-inducing and pain-relieving properties to help individuals work through various mental and emotional challenges. The ketamine must first be prescribed by a licensed physician.

The following clinicians at FTI have been trained in this model and would begin by providing a consultation to help you decide if this is an appropriate strategy for you.
